Kamaz may switch to part-time weeks on low exports from China

MOSCOW, Feb 25 (PRIME) -- Russia’s largest car producer Kamaz may switch its operations to part-time weeks in late April due to low exports of component parts from China, according to an order published in the company’s corporate edition on Tuesday.

“The document says that part-time working week may be introduced on April 20 due to low supplies of component parts, raw materials, and so on from China due to exacerbation of the epidemiologic situation caused by the coronavirus infection,” the report read.

The management issued the order to avoid unscheduled downtime in case of emergency.

A Kamaz representative said that the situation with Chinese components is not dire now, and would not hurt the company’s operations in March. Chinese components account for about 10% of the components that Kamaz uses, and the company already found replacements, the official said.
